Silicon is the module version of the beloved Ark console microphone preamplifier. If you want clean, open sound, Silicon delivers it with precision and control.

Its transformerless, universal solid-state design accepts signals from virtually any microphone. As a result, you can plug in standard condenser mics, older ribbon microphones, synths, or even guitars. In fact, you can also use this mic input as a line input.

Silicon keeps your signal path exceptionally quiet. With an Equivalent Input Noise of -138 dBu, it adds virtually no noise beyond what the microphone already produces. Therefore, you can capture detail with confidence and preserve every nuance of the source.

The Mic trim pot offers a gain range from +20 to +60 dB. This gives you fine control over input levels and makes it easy to dial in the right amount of gain. For lower-level sources, the 20 dB [Range] switch shifts the gain range to 0 to +40 dB. Consequently, you get the same precise adjustment, just at a lower overall level.

Importantly, the [Range] switch is not a pad. Instead, it changes the gain range of the microphone amplifier by adjusting several key circuit parameters:

• the value of the gain pot
• the quiescent current of the input stage
• the amount of feedback used to stabilise the circuit

These changes help maintain excellent noise, distortion, and headroom performance across all gain settings. By contrast, a pad simply reduces level and can introduce extra noise. Silicon avoids that tradeoff. So, while the result may feel similar at first, the signal quality stays cleaner with Silicon.
