Silicon Solid State Microphone Preamp
Silicon is the Octa / 500 module version of the much-loved microphone preamplifier from the Ark console. It delivers the pure, clean gain your microphone needs, and it keeps the sound transparent from the first note to the last. If you want a preamp that brings out detail without adding colour, Silicon Solid State Microphone Preamp gives you exactly that.
In addition, Silicon uses a transformerless, universal solid-state design. As a result, it accepts signals from any microphone type with confidence. You can connect dynamic mics, condenser mics, and even older ribbon microphones directly. Furthermore, synths and guitars also work well, so you can use this input as a line or DI input when needed.
Silicon also keeps noise extremely low. With an Equivalent Input Noise of -138 dBu, it stays below the noise floor of the microphone itself. Therefore, your recordings remain clear, open, and detailed. That means you hear more of the source and less of the preamp.
For level control, the Mic input trim pot offers a 40 dB gain range. This gives you precise control over softer signals. Then, for stronger inputs, the 20 dB [Range] switch reduces the incoming level while preserving the same fine adjustment. Because of this design, you can manage a wide range of sources without losing control.
The [Range] switch is not a simple pad. Instead, it changes the gain range of the microphone amplifier by adjusting the gain pot value, the quiescent current of the input stage, and the feedback used to stabilise the circuit. Consequently, the preamp maintains its excellent noise, distortion, and headroom performance across all gain settings. A pad can raise noise, but the [Range] switch avoids that problem.
Silicon also includes our reference bargraph meter, which helps you monitor levels with confidence. Moreover, it features the Lo-Cut Filter from the Ark console EQ section, so you can reduce unwanted low-end rumble at the source.
Finally, Silicon is available as an Octa or 500 module. You can choose a Silver or Black faceplate to match your setup.
