SPL De-Esser

The Original.

The Auto-Dynamic De-Esser removes undesired sibilant frequencies in a simple and musical way with the S-removal based on phase cancellation which does not compromise the timbre and natural character of the recorded vocal track.

Auto-Dynamic De-Esser

The De-Esser uses a unique technology to reduce sibiliance in a mix or on vocal tracks. It automatically detects and hones in on the sibilant frequencies leaving neighboring frequencies unaffected. These S-sounds are mixed back into the main signal phase-inverted to cancel out the sibilance.

The result is a sound-neutral, inconspicuous and extremely effective process. Even at high S-Reduction values the de-essing has an egligible effect on the character and timbre of the voice.

S-Reduction

The Auto Dynamic De-Esser is extremely simple to operate: The S-Reduction control is the only control you need to set. The more it is turned up the more sibiliance is removed.

You can set the detection to better find sibiliance in male or female vocals by selecting the respective Male/Female button.

Auto Threshold

Rounding out the amazingly simple control system is an automatic threshold-adjusting function. Level differences in the input level caused by the varying distance to the mic, are compensated for automatically.

This ensures even de-essing independent of the input signal level so any necessary compression may be applied post the de-esser.

How it works

The Auto Dynamic De-Esser monitors the S-frequency spectrum and automatically detects the sibilant frequencies. The de-ess bandwidth is set so narrowly around the range of the sibilance that neighbouring frequencies remain unaffected.

The detected sibiliance is mixed back into the main signal phase-inverted so that only the S-sounds are cancelled. The S-reduction control sets the intensity of the S-reduction.

Inputs & Outputs

The two channels of the De-Esser are equipped with Neutrik XLR sockets with gold-plated contacts and TRS Jacks The signal transmission is electronically balanced at a nominal level of +6 dB.
